It's just a nice place to visit , old-time wood floors that creek . I thought I saw boot spur marks even . They have the best meat counter , the breakfast sausage is the best you will ever find . They seem to know what people need out in the boonies, and have it. Not always your brand, but it will do items . The old timer butcher ( Pat ) will cut any meat to way you like it . They don't carry much Chicken in farm country ! If you want chicken you will need to run one down at the local farmers . Thats what Country folk do .

I really like Country House. It provides a very good selection and competitive pricing even compared with bigger places further away from the area, particularly for those in the Apple Canyon Lake community. I would imagine it serves Scales Mound well and I know at least one local restaurant uses some of the meat they sell for burgers, so it’s a twofer as far as supporting the local community goes.
The individuals who work there are uniformly friendly and helpful, and willing to go out of their way for customer satisfaction whether it’s in greeting shoppers or going in the back to check stock on products. They often engage in what I assume is friendly conversation with the locals, which seems nice but I have little perspective on such matters as a hermit of sorts who has spent the past decade having to go to Budapest, which is a significantly different environment for a wide variety of reasons.
Due to some dietary considerations I tend to have a restricted range of things I choose, but Country House is great at keeping them available and has a wide variety of other options for practically any group I can think of.
They also have a lot of Scales Mound merchandise, which looks fun for those visiting or from the town.
